The first book in the series explores intrusive thoughts as an aspect of anxiety. It looks at how a single thought can transition from something small, to something that completely takes over the mind. It also looks at cultural ideas of rationality, and how these cannot be applied to certain processes and symptoms.

The second book in the series explores panic attacks, and the difficulty breathing that many anxiety sufferers experience. The opening and closing of the book mimics the action of inhaling and exhaling, and works with the narrative to give the reader a clearer sense of the extreme symptoms associated with the mental health disorder.
